Julie Kent, the visionary Artistic Director of The Washington Ballet, shares why she loves classical ballet. She details the dance-making process, how to appreciate the human body as it makes lines in space, and how to let go as an audience member and allow yourself to enjoy a dance performance.

Prior to serving as Artistic Director of The Washington Ballet, Kent was the longest serving ballerina in American Ballet Theatre’s 77-year history, and one of the leading American ballerinas of her generation. She was appointed a Soloist in 1990 and a Principal Dancer in 1993, the year in which she was named one of People Magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People.”
